“God’s weight [is to] stop up [a] word; king’s weight [is to] penetrate [that] word.” (Proverbs 25:2)
What is a spirit?
Mark 2:29-31 (KJV)
“29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, You shall love your neighbour as yourself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”
The word ‘soul’ in Mark chapter 12 verses 30 is translated from the word ‘breath’ (which is commonly translated as ‘spirit’).
In the King James Version of the Bible, the words ‘breath’ and ‘breathing’ have been translated as ‘breath,’ ‘spirit,’ ‘soul,’ and ‘life.’
Why was ‘breath’ translated as ‘spirit’?
Another interesting thing is that, in the King James Version of the Bible, the word ‘Spirit’ in the phrase ‘Spirit of God’ and the word ‘Ghost’ in the phrase ‘Holy Ghost’ are translated from the word ‘Wind’.
Let’s look at something that happened at the time of Moses.
Numbers 11:16-17, 24-29
“16 And the Lord said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with you.
17 And I will come down and talk with you there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon you, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you bear it not yourself alone.
…
24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the Lord, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.
25 And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
26 But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
27 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
29 And Moses said unto him, Are you zealous for my sake? would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!”
“…that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them.”
The word ‘lord’ in verse 28, when Joshua says ‘my lord Moses,’ is translated from a word that means ‘sovereign.’ Joshua was addressing Moses as Joshua’s leader.
The word ‘Lord’ everywhere else in that passage of scripture is translated from the word ‘Yehovah’ (or ‘Jehovah’) which means ‘Self-Existing’.
The word ‘spirit’ in that passage is consistently translated from the word ‘Wind.’ That word ‘wind’ is based on a primary root word that means ‘blow’.
Who is ‘Jehovah,’ the Self-Existing?
Exodus 3:13-15 (KJV)
“13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers has sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shall you say unto the children of Israel, I Am has sent me unto you.
15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shall you say unto the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.”
In that passage of scripture, the phrase ‘I Am’ is translated from ‘exist’. God said to Moses, ‘My Name is ‘Exist’.’
The Hebrew word ‘Yehovah’ is based on that Hebrew word ‘exist.’
Jehovah is the God of Abraham and Jehovah has a ‘Wind’ that Jehovah put on Moses. When Jehovah put His Wind on the elders, the elders prophesied and did not stop prophesying.
A similar thing happened to Jesus and Jesus’s disciples.
Matthew 3:1-3, 11-17 (KJV)
“1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2 And saying, Repent you: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias [Isaiah 40:3], saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
…
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Then comes Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of you, and come you to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becomes us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
The word ‘Spirit’ is translated from the Greek word ‘current’ (which comes from the Greek word ‘breath’) and the phrase ‘Holy Ghost’ is translated from ‘Clean Current’.
John the Baptist saw the ‘Current of God’. How can a man see a ‘current’?
John saw the ‘Current of God’ descend on Jesus like a dove. How can a ‘current’ behave like a dove?
Matthew 4:1 (KJV)
“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.”
In that verse, the word ‘led’ is translated from a Greek word meaning ‘lead up’.
Clearly, God’s Word is not talking about a ‘current’ in the sense of ‘air that moves.’ The ‘Current of God’ is personified in the Bible.
Jesus said…
John 14:10-17, 23-30 (KJV)
“10 Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
12 Firmly, firmly, I say unto you, He that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
15 If you love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.
…
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loves me not keeps not my sayings: and the word which you hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 You have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If you loved me, you would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, you might believe.
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world comes, and has nothing in me.”
The Holy Ghost, also known as the Holy Spirit, is the ‘Current of Truth’. The Holy Spirit is invisible. The Holy Spirit can speak. The Holy Spirit can bring Jesus’s words to remembrance.
The Holy Spirit is the ‘Spirit of God the Father’.
What does that mean?
Numbers 11:16-17
“16 And the Lord said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with you.
17 And I will come down and talk with you there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon you, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you bear it not yourself alone.”
Numbers 11:29
“29 And Moses said unto him, Are you zealous for my sake? would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!”
Jehovah put the ‘Spirit of Jehovah’ on Moses. But Jehovah was in Heaven and Moses was on earth.
Jehovah said, ‘And I will come down and talk with you there: and I will take of the Spirit which is upon you, and will put it upon them…”
So the ‘Spirit of Jehovah’ can be in more than one place at the same time.
Jehovah was in Heaven while Moses was on Earth. Jehovah said, ‘I will come down to you… and I will take of the Spirit which is upon you and put it upon them…’
Jehovah is referring to Himself separately from the ‘Spirit of Jehovah’.
Jesus said…
John 15:26-27 (KJV)
“26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me:
27 And you also shall bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.”
The word ‘proceeds’ in that verse is translated from a Greek word ‘depart’. That Greek word comes from the two words ‘origin’ and ‘travel’.
The ‘Spirit of Truth’ originates from ‘God the Father’. Does that mean that the Spirit of Truth was with God the Father, or does it mean that the Spirit of Truth was in God the Father?
Is the Spirit of Truth part of God the Father?
What did Paul say?
Ephesians 3:1, 8-12
“For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
…
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world has been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.”
Colossians 1:1-3, 12-17 (KJV)
“1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,
2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
…
12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which has made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
Yet, Jesus said…
John 14:10-12 (KJV)
“10 Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
12 Firmly, firmly, I say unto you, He that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”
John 16:13-15 (KJV)
“13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of Truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”
Paul says that ‘God created all things by Jesus Christ’ and that ‘all things were created by Jesus Christ, and for Him. He is before all things and by Him all things consist.’
(That word ‘consist’ is translated from a word that means ‘set together’ which comes from the words ‘stand’ and union’.)
God the Father created everything through Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ said ‘The Father that dwells in me does the works.’
So the ‘Holy Spirit’ must have come from God the Father and must be part of God.
Jesus said…
Matthew 12:14-15, 22-33 (KJV)
“14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from there: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
…
22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow does not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathers not with me scatters abroad.
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaks against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.”
Jesus said that whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
The Holy Spirit is from God the Father and the Holy Spirit performed miracles through Jesus Christ. God the Father is invisible and the Holy Spirit is invisible.
But where did Jesus come from? God created all things through Jesus Christ. ‘All’ excludes God and Jesus Christ because they had to exist before God could create ‘all’ through Jesus Christ.
So where did Jesus come from?
Read this, and then I want to point to some verses in it.
John 1:1-34 (KJV)
“1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that comes after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 No man has seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.
19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you?
20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21 And they asked him, What then? Are you Elias [Elijah]? And he says, I am not. Are you that prophet? And he answered, No.
22 Then said they unto him, Who are you? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What say you of yourself?
23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias [Isaiah].
24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizes you then, if you be not that Christ, nor Elias [Elijah], neither that prophet?
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there stands one among you, whom you know not;
27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 The next day John sees Jesus coming unto him, and says, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.
30 This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost.
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.”
Let us look at some of those verses…
John 1:1-5, 14, 17-18, 29-34 (KJV)
“1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
…
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
…
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 No man has seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.
…
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God… and the Word was God… and the Word was made flesh… and dwelt among us.
Jesus Christ was in God the Father.
Remember, Jesus said:
Luke 6:45
“A good man brings forth that which is good out of the good treasure of his heart; and an evil man brings forth that which is evil out of the evil treasure of his heart: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
Matthew 19:16-17
“16 See, one coming near said to him, Good Teacher, what good holds perpetual life?
17 And he said to him, Why call me good? No one is good, except one; He is God. But if you are determined to enter into the life, guard the commandments.”
Jesus Christ is the Word of God. ‘The mouth speaks out of the abundance of the heart.’ Jesus Christ came from God’s heart.
John 1:18
“18 No man has seen God at any time: the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.”
The phrase ‘only begotten’ in John 1:18 is translated from the Greek word ‘monogenes’ which comes from two words. The one word is ‘monos’ which means ‘remaining’; the other word is a word that means ’cause to be’.
The word ‘bosom’ in John 1:18 was translated from a word that means ‘bosom’ or ‘chest’.
Where is God’s heart?
Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV)
“26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
God’s heart is in His chest. A man’s heart is in his chest.
And Jesus said…
Matthew 6:19-21 (KJV)
“19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
So wherever your treasure is, your heart is there also.
God’s heart is where God’s treasure is.
Jesus said…
John 8:28-29 (KJV)
“28 Then said Jesus unto them, When you have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father has taught me, I speak these things.
29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father has not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.”
John 14:10 (KJV)
“10 Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.”
John 15:9-13 (KJV)
“9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you: continue you in my love.
10 If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That you love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
John 10:30 (KJV)
“30 I and my Father are one.”
John 15:23-24 (KJV)
“23 He that hates me hates my Father also.
24 If I had not done among them the works which no other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.”
John 16:26-27 (KJV)
“26 At that day you shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.”
John 17:17-26 (KJV)
“17 Sanctify them through your truth: your word is truth.
18 As you have sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that you have sent me.
22 And the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have loved me.
24 Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me.
26 And I have declared unto them your name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
Jesus Christ is in God the Father, God the Father is in Jesus Christ, and Jesus prayed that those who believe on Him would also be in Him and in God the Father and that He and God the Father would be in them.
How is it possible for God to be in us and for us to be in God?
The same as it is possible for God the Father to be in Jesus Christ.
Matthew 6:20-21 (KJV)
“20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
God the Father treasures Jesus and Jesus treasures God the Father. So God the Father is in Jesus and Jesus is in God the Father.
Jesus Christ and God the Father, but they treasure whomever believes that Jesus Christ came from God the Father and obey’s Jesus’s command.
John 16:27 (KJV)
“27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.”
John 15:9-10, 12 (KJV)
“9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you: continue you in my love.
10 If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
…
12 This is my commandment, That you love one another, as I have loved you.”
Galatians 5:14 (KJV)
“14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
You can be ‘in God’ and God ‘in you’ when you obey Jesus’ command to ‘love (agape)’ your neighbour as yourself and you believe that Jesus Christ came from God the Father.
What does it mean to be ‘in God’?
We saw that Jesus is in God the Father’s heart and that God the Father is in Jesus’s heart.
But there’s another aspect to it.
Do you remember the ‘Wind (Spirit) of Jehovah’?
Numbers 11:29
“29 And Moses said unto him, Are you zealous for my sake? would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!”
That word ‘Lord’ is translated from the word ‘Yehovah’ (or ‘Jehovah’) which means ‘Self-Existing’.
The word ‘spirit’ in that passage is consistently translated from the word ‘Wind.’
That word ‘wind’ is based on a primary root word that means ‘blow’.
John 1:32-34 (KJV)
“32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost.
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.”
John 14:16-17 (KJV)
“16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.”
John 20:21-23 (KJV)
“21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father has sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and says unto them, Receive you the Holy Ghost:
23 Whose soever sins you remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins you retain, they are retained.”
Luke 24:29-52 (KJV)
“49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with power from on high.
50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:”
Act 2:1-18 (KJV)
“1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What means this?
13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, You men of Judaea, and all you that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15 For these are not drunken, as you suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:”
Peter was quoting from the Book of Joel.
Joel 2:27-18 (KJV)
“27 And you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.
28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:”
In Joel 2:27-28, the word ‘Lord’ is translated from ‘Jehovah’ and the word ‘spirit’ is translated from the word ‘Wind’.
Act 2:1-4 (KJV)
“1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Jesus’s disciples were filled with the ‘Wind of Jehovah’ which means that the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, went inside them.
If the ‘Wind of Jehovah’ went into Jesus’s disciples, does that mean that each disciple’s ‘wind’ went into God the Father also?
Do we humans have a ‘wind’?
Elihu, in the Book of Job, said something interesting. The Book of Job contains discussions between people and some things that some people said were neither wise nor good. So it’s important to understand the context of a verse and to not quote parts of the Book of Job outside of context.
Job 32:4-9 (KJV)
“1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
2 Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
3 Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
4 Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.
5 When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.
6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and you are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and dared not show you my opinion.
7 I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.
8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding.
9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.”
In Joel chapter 32 verse 8, the word ‘spirit’ in the phrase ‘spirit of man’ is translated from the word ‘wind.’
The word ‘inspiration’ in the phrase ‘inspiration of the Almighty’ is translated from a Hebrew word that means ‘puff’ which comes from a Hebrew word that means ‘to blow.’
Are there any other scriptures that reference there being a ‘wind’ in man?
Psalm 143:4 (KJV)
“Therefore is my spirit [wind] overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.”
Daniel 7:15 (KJV)
“I Daniel was grieved in my spirit [wind] in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.”
In Psalm 143 verse 4 and in Daniel chapter 7 verse 15, the word ‘spirit’ is translated from a word that means ‘wind.’
Luke 1:46-47 (KJV)
“46 And Mary [the mother of Jesus Christ] said, My soul does magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour.”
In Luke chapter 1 verses 46 and 47, the word ‘soul’ is translated from the word ‘breath’ and the word ‘spirit’ is translated from the word ‘current’.
That word ‘current’ is the same word that is translated ‘Spirit’ in the phrases ‘Holy Spirit’ and ‘Spirit of Truth’.
So the ‘breath’ that came out of Mary’s mouth was different from Mary’s ‘current.’
Luke 23:46 (KJV)
“And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into your hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”
In Luke chapter 23 verse 46, that word ‘spirit’ is translated from the word ‘current’ which is the same word that is translated ‘Spirit’ in the phrases ‘Holy Spirit’ and ‘Spirit of Truth’ (as in John 16:13 and John 1:33, for two examples).
A man has a spirit and a woman has a spirit because we are made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27).
What else has a ‘spirit’?
Numbers 27:16 (KJV)
“Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,”
In Numbers chapter 27 verse 16, the word ‘spirit’ is translated from the word ‘wind.’
The word ‘all’ is translated from a word that means ‘all.’
The word ‘flesh’ is translated from a word that means ‘flesh.’
Do animals have spirits?
Consider this.
2 Kings 6:15-18 (KJV)
“15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, a host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray you, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray you, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.”
God made invisible chariots and invisible horses. We know that a ‘wind’ which means ‘spirit’ can be invisible. God made spirit horses.
James 2:26 (KJV)
“26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
In James chapter 2 verse 26, the word ‘spirit’ is translated from ‘current’ and the word ‘faith’ is translated from the word ‘persuasion.’
If a natural body is dead without a spirit, and God made spirit horses, it is logical to assume that all animals that have flesh also have a ‘wind / current / spirit.’
1 Corinthians 15:38-44 (KJV)
“38 But God gives it a body as it has pleased him, and to every seed his own body.
39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differs from another star in glory.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.”
The word ‘spiritual’ in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 verse 44 is translated from a word which means ‘non-carnal’ and is based on the word ‘wind’ that can be translated as ‘spirit.’ In that verse, the word ‘natural’ is translated from a word that means ‘sensitive.’
So the ‘natural’ body is a sensitive, carnal body made of flesh. The ‘wind’ or ‘spirit’ body is not a sensitive body, is not carnal and is not flesh, but it is still a body.
Luke 24:36-40 (KJV)
“36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and says unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are you troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see me have.
40 And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet.”
I could go into more depth regarding ‘wind / spirit’ bodies, because God’s Word tells us about the health of a ‘wind’ body and how it can be fractured (Proverbs 15:4, Proverbs 15:13), among other things, but that is a Bible study for another time.
Are angels spirits?
Psalm 104:1-4 (KJV)
“1 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with honour and majesty.
2 Who covers yourself with light as with a garment: who stretches out the heavens like a curtain:
3 Who lays the beams of his chambers in the waters: who makes the clouds his chariot: who walks upon the wings of the wind:
4 Who makes his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:”
The word ‘spirit’ in Psalm 104 verse 4 is the word ‘wind.’ The word ‘angel’ in that verse is the word ‘messenger,’ which is commonly translated as ‘angel.’ The word ‘minister’ in that verse is translated from a word that means ‘attendant.’
There are many types of angels in Heaven, each of whom have a different appearance, that are described in the Bible. There are also heavenly creatures which are not ‘angels / messengers’ that the Bible describes. I won’t go into that in this Bible study.
Are there good angels and bad angels?
Yes, and sometimes the bad angels disguise themselves to look like good angels.
1 Corinthians 11:11-15 (KJV)
“11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knows.
12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”
There are ‘fallen angels’ and there are ‘unclean spirits.’ There is a difference between them which I will not go into now.
You should test the spirits to know whether they come from God.
This is how you can test them:
1 John 4:1-21 (KJV)
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know you the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world hears them.
6 We are of God: he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God hears not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God.
8 He that loves not knows not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loves God love his brother also.”
Can an evil spirit possess a human body?
Can an evil spirit possess an animal body?
Mark 5:1-20 (KJV)
“And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.”
A Roman Legion is a division of the Roman army that can have 3,000 to 6,000 soldiers in it (according to dictionary.com ).
Jesus cast the unclean spirits out of that man and those unclean spirits went into a herd of 2,000 swine and ran into the sea and choked.
There were at least 2,000 unclean spirits in that man.
Matthew 12:38-45 (KJV)
“38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from you.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas [Jonah]:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none.
44 Then he says, I will return into my house from where I came out; and when he is come, he finds it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goes he, and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”
There is an invisible world that we cannot see unless our the eyes of our spirit body are open.
As Elisha prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened, so I pray for your eyes to open.
John 4:23-24 (KJV)
“23 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
Psalm 24:1-6 (KJV)
“1 The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
2 For he has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.
3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He that has clean hands, and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.”
